Grey Street (Road)

Grey Street - one of the oldest roads in then Calcutta (now Kolkata) & the road is renamed as Aurobinda Sarani. This road joins the Acharya Prafulla Chandra Rd (Upper Circular Rd) with Rabindra Sarani (Chitpur Rd). It originates at Ultadanga, known as ultadanga Main Rd, changes to Aurobinda Sarani at Khanna Cinema crossing, A. P. C. Road, continues eastwards, crossing Bidhan Sarani, Jatindra Mohan Avenue, and changes into Shobhabazar Street at Rabindra Sarani Crossing. This is a very busy road, consisting of one of Kolkata's biggest markets, the Hatibagan Market, at Bidhan Sarani Crossing. It has a number of buses, autos, taxis plying through it. It also has a tram service from Hatibagan, Bidhan Sarani to Rabindra Sarani, with trams of two routes (No. 4 Belgacchia- B.B.D. Bag via chitpur & No. 10 Shyambazar- B.B.D. Bag via chitpur). The road also passes over a bridge, Arobindo Setu, over one of Kolkata's canals. The bridge however is very badly maintained and many drivers prefer driving through a new but small bridge close-by. It can be considered as one of Kolkata's most congested narrow main roads.
